Long-term electrocardiograms are used mainly to diagnose heart rhythm abnormalities. A long-term ECG shows how the heart rate behaves both during the day and at night. It makes it possible to trace the electrocardiogram without interruption over a period of 24 to 48 hours and up to a maximum of 7 days.
